Answers to frequently asked questions about damaged siding, class action settlements and more

Masonite siding is a product made of wax, resin and wood fiber. Often used as hardboard siding, this siding is distributed in two ways: both in board and sheet applications. These applications are available in varied textures that are designed to replicate the look of usual lumber siding.

Masonite siding can be used for a variety of uses including for residential exterior siding or siding for other structures as well. Other products include roof and interior siding, wall substrate, deck and plywood sheathing. In the past 15 years, masonite has been under speculation.

Supposedly, the siding installed into homes, structures and commercial or rental properties between January 1, 1980 and January 15, 1998 will discolor, deteriorate, rot, buckle and cause damage to other building structural parts in to which it was installed. This adds damage costs to its purchasers. Masonite has since denied these allegations, however a series of lawsuits have been placed since 1994.

In order to qualify for this siding settlement, one must have owned U.S. property where the Masonite siding was installation from January 1, 1990 to January 15, 1998. They also must be a subsequent purchaser of this property and have claim valid assignment under the settle agreement set forth.
