Maintenance Tips

Most hardboard and OSB siding products will show some signs of damage. If you are experiencing problems with your siding, review the following maintenance tips to extend the life of your siding.

Maintenance Tips

  • Any roof wall intersections should be repaired and diverters installed to shed water from the walls of the structure.
  • All trees and shrubbery should be cut back at least 12" from any siding.
  • For lap siding, all bottom edges must be sealed and painted.
  • Remove all mildew before painting.
  • Siding and trim should be caulked and painted with 100% acrylic latex paint.
  • Satin or Semi-gloss paints should be used.
  • All joints, nail holes and trim intersections should be caulked.
  • Do not power wash the siding.
  • Adjust sprinkler heads away from siding.
  • Water from roofs, gutters and air conditioning units should be diverted away from siding.
  • Siding should be installed at least 1 ½" from roof lines and dormers and at least 6" from the ground.
